Interdisciplinary Degree Programmes

Creative Sustainability (CS)

The MDP in Creative Sustainability is a new cross-disciplinary Master’s degree programme of Aalto University School of Art and Design, School of Economics and School of Science and Technology. Teaching language is English.

The CS program is a joint teaching platform of the Aalto University on sustainable design & business. It is built on a number of disciplines: real estate, urban planning, landscape planning, building design and industrial design, as well as the discipline of management. Each student will gain thorough knowledge of his/her own discipline. In addition, the interdisciplinary structure of the program enhances the understanding of the work practices of sustainability experts from different fields as well the skills of communication about sustainability.

Masters students of AUSE gain knowledge on the management of organizations and work, and on the role of different actors of sustainability in promoting and bringing about more sustainable and fair societies. Sustainability concerns are introduced in this program as an increasingly relevant context of business and innovation. For an AUSE student, master’s degree in creative sustainability will enhance the problem-solving skills, contribute to reflexive work practice and increase capabilities to promote business renewal and innovation.

Teaching of the program is strongly connected to practical outcomes. Courses will take students to solve problems in developing world villages, to rethink urban sustainability with city planning offices, to boost and promote new sustainable entrepreneurship, to grass-roots level work with NGO’s as well to new high-tech businesses that are emerging around renewable energy sources.
